Elephant Toothpaste
Yesterday LS1 and Room 5 went to the front field to see an elephant toothpaste experiment at 2’o clock. Miss Kirkpatrick invited her friends Mrs Davis and Miss Dutton to come along and make the Elephant Toothpaste experiment in front of us.
First they used a cylinder. Mrs Davis chose two volunteers. Mrs put in hydrogen peroxide then put in a teaspoon of potassium iodide crystals. Then a volunteer squirts detergent in. Then it started to rumble then the mix blew out. I was terrified, I had the butterflies.
Then Mrs Davis chose two new volunteers. (This time it was in a fizzy bottle) Mrs Davis poured 100 mls into the cylinder then put into the fizzy bottle. Then put the potassium iodide crystals in, and squirted the detergent in. When it exploded it started to burst up higher and higher! Then the fizzy bottle started to melt! “How could a bottle melt by foam touching it?” I thought to myself.
Then Mrs Davis went around with the melted bottle. When it touched it it felt hot, steamy and gooey. When the event was over some people went over to get a handful of foam. When the foam was of their hands. I saw that their hands started to get yellow!
